Wave Camp Forecast

This weekend, Marion is experiencing a snow, sleet, and rain event.  The precipitation should cease Sunday late afternoon and, accompanied by “warm” Sunday afternoon temperatures, any accumulation of snow should be gone by Monday.

Monday will have a low chance of precipitation of any kind, but it will be chilly in the mid to upper-thirties so drying of the runway will be slow.

For the period beginning Tuesday February 24 and ending Thursday February 26, the jet stream will not be unfavorable to wave formation.  Additionally, winds aloft are forecast to be favorable for wave formation.  So there could be a very good start to wave camp!

The evening 7:00 PM brief will include information about wind speeds aloft, temperature inversions aloft, and wind gradient.  If there is a ‘positive’ outlook for the next morning, I will post an update the following morning that will include actual winds and temps at 6,000 if the Mt. Mitchell weather station is working. The timing of this posting will take place before 6:30 AM unless there are technical issues or I am still sleeping.

Enjoy!
